MARBLE SHAPES

TWO OBJECTS. SAME MATERIAL. SAME GEOMETRY. DIFFERENT PRESENCE.

CARVED ENTIRELY FROM CARRARA MARBLE, THESE SCULPTURAL PIECES PUSH THE LIMITS OF MASS AND MINIMALISM. EACH FORM IS CONSTRUCTED FROM FOUR LONG, ROUNDED RODS, STANDING IN PERFECT PARALLEL, HELD TOGETHER BY THEIR OWN DENSITY AND A RADICAL SENSE OF RESTRAINT.

THE SMALLER PIECE IS DELIBERATELY AMBIGUOUS. TOO MONUMENTAL TO BE CALLED A DECORATIVE OBJECT. TOO PARED BACK TO BE FURNITURE. IT EXISTS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN FUNCTION AND ARTEFACT.

A PIECE THAT DEMANDS TO BE LOOKED AT, TO BE WALKED AROUND, TO BE FELT.

THE LARGER FORM IS UNAPOLOGETIC IN SCALE. MONOLITHIC IN CHARACTER, YET SOFTENED BY THE SUBTLE CURVATURE OF ITS VERTICAL ELEMENTS. THE SURFACE IS SMOOTH, BUT NOT POLISHED, ALLOWING THE NATURAL VEINING OF THE MARBLE TO READ LIKE TOPOGRAPHY. IT’S NOT DECOR. IT’S STRUCTURE, REIMAGINED.

TOGETHER, THE OBJECTS SPEAK IN VOLUME AND SILENCE. THEY OCCUPY SPACE WITH INTENTION, WITHHOLDING OBVIOUS FUNCTION IN FAVOUR OF PURE PRESENCE. THEY’RE NOT LOUD. THEY DON’T NEED TO BE. THEY’RE MADE FROM STONE THAT’S BEEN SPEAKING FOR MILLENNIA.
